The Exorcist Prequels: Why Produce Two Identical Films???

Yeah. Two films with identical story. Two films with the same actor PLAYING the same role. Two films with different titles. Yeah.

These two films, Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist and Exorcist: The Beginning, boggled my mind. Bakit kelangan ng dalawa? Nalaman ko na ang Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist yung unang ginawa pero nang mapanood ata ng mga producers hindi nila nagustuhan dahil kulang ng violence, gore, blood, at kung ano-ano pa. So gumawa sila ng bago. Pag-aaksaya ng pera, hindi ba?

Ipalalabas ang dalawang pelikula ng magkasunod sa HBO (ewan ko lang kung kailan). Napanood ko na ang Dominion. Titingnan natin kung ano ang mas maganda. Pero ito ang nabasa ko sa Wiki:

Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist is a 2005 horror/thriller film directed by Paul Schrader.

The film was originally shelved after Renny Harlin replaced Schrader as the director of Exorcist: The Beginning. But after the poor response to Harlin's version, Morgan Creek allowed Schrader's version of the film to be released under the title Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist.

The film is essentially the same story as Exorcist: The Beginning, though the mood is more thoughtful, and there is less violence.

* The theme song for the series was sung by the winner Pinoy Pop Superstar Jonalyn Viray. "Ang Mundo Ko'y Ikaw" is the title of the song, in English it translates into "My World is You."
* The series will run for 18 weeks, but could change depending on the sucess of the show.
* According to some reports, Sunshine Dizon's prostetics takes around an hour to be completed.
* Originally Yasmien Kurdi have a very white skin and high bridged nose while Lovi Poe have a darkish skin color but the management decides to make Yasmien's skin darkish and nose flat for the sake of the show
* The series has been extended for two weeks for the younger version of the children of Marta, Valeria and Bakekang; this is requested by the viewers. For that, the original 18 weeks (90 episodes) running of Bakekang will become 20 weeks (110 episodes).

Casting

* Jean Garcia, Sheryl Cruz, Jaya, Ara Mina, Jolina Magdangal, Angel Locsin and Sharon Cuneta were considered for the highly-coveted title role before Sunshine Dizon was eventually cast.
* Sunshine Dizon's character was killed off in Captain Barbell after she got the title role in Bakekang.
* Originally Wendell Ramos and Zoren Legaspi were going to potray the roles of Christoph and Herman. Ramos was eventually cast in Captain Barbell (TV Series) by GMA Network and had to leave the production of Bakekang. Jay Manalo was casted for Ramos' role. Santiago was eventually replaced by Victor Neri because of some complications.
* Nadine Samonte was supposed to play Kristal, but the role went to Lovi Poe. Jackie Rice was considered for one of the daughters, most likely Charming opposite her loveteam Marky Cielo.
* For the first time in television, Sheryl Cruz plays an all-out villain role in the series as Valeria, the wife of matinee idol Christoph Arevalo (played by Jay Manalo). Sheryl previously played good girl/protagonist roles in two seasons of the GMA afternoon drama mini-series "Now and Forever" (Ganti and Tinig). In movies, Sheryl played villain twice, first in Viva Films' "Ikaw Naman ang Iiyak" (1994) to protagonist Dawn Zulueta, and second in Regal Films' "Mano Po 3" (2004) where she played Vilma Santos' sinister sister-in-law.

Hollywood News : Disney's Rapunzel

Rapunzel is an American animation film scheduled for release in 2009 and produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and Walt Disney Pictures and to be distributed by Buena Vista Pictures in the United States. The story is based on the fairytale Rapunzel.

Though the film will be made entirely in CGI, Rapunzel will resemble traditional oil paintings on canvas, which will take another step further in the graphic development in computer animation that WDFA is going to use in American Dog. One of the main ambitions of the makers of Rapunzel is to create movements that are just as soft and fluid as of that in the old Disney Classics.

Very few details have been released about this film, except that in late 2004, production was halted in order to "retool" it. Early versions of Rapunzel (then titled Rapunzel Unbraided) had been criticized by top Disney artists and executives for being too "Shrekified" (having too many similarities to the 2001 Dreamworks hit animated film Shrek, which parodied numerous fairy tales and Disney animated films). The retooling is expected to last two years, with Rapunzel's release date being pushed back from 2007 to 2009. Many classic Disney films often go through this retooling phase, with the end result being a much stronger film. In July 2006, Disney's new creative head John Lasseter admitted that he is very pleased with Rapunzel thus far, after seeing a nearly-completed first act.

Visual style and animations

The movie's visual style will based on the painting "The Swing", by the French Rococo artist Jean-Honore Fragonard[1]. Because Keane wanted this to be an animated movie that looked and felt like a traditional hand-drawn Disney Classic in 3D, he first had a seminar called "The Best of Both Worlds", where he, with 50 Disney animators (CGI artists and traditional artists), focused on the pluses and minuses of each genre and what could be done to combine the strength of both into an animated feature[2]. The movie will be made by animators from both traditional and CGI backgrounds. Thanks to the improvements in computer technology many of the basic principles of animation used in traditional animated movies that has been absent in CGI films due to technical limitations, is now becoming possible also in this field of animation, where they will be used together with the potential offered by CGI. Because many of the techniques and tools that were required to give the film the quality Keane demanded of it didn't exist when the project was started, WDFA had to make them on their own[1]. Among other new tools that the artists are using is a graphics tablet or a tablet PC. This makes it easier to manipulate and move the objects in the positions that the animators want, as opposed to using a crude mouse tool which in many animators opinion results in movements that seems too stiff and artificial. The tool allows them to draw on the screen as it was pencil on paper and then fill in the silhouettes, key drawings and lines with three dimensional computer animated objects and characters. To create the impression of a drawing, Non-photorealistic rendering is going to be used, making the surface look like it is painted but still containing depth and dimensions.

Spider-Man 3 is the third film in the Spider-Man film series, scheduled to be released on May 4, 2007, both in conventional theaters and IMAX. Directed by Sam Raimi, the film's confirmed returning cast from the previous two Spider-Man films includes: Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Dylan Baker, and J. K. Simmons.

Columbia Pictures officially announced that the main filming for Spider-Man 3 started on January 2, 2006; however, certain preliminary test photography was said to have begun as early as September 2005. Filming began on November 5, 2005. Reportedly, the film's budget is $300 million, meaning it will be the most expensive film ever made in nominal U.S. dollars. It would also break X-Men: The Last Stand's budget record of $210 million, and be second, in adjusted dollars, to War and Peace's budget of $560 Million.

LOS ANGELES—“PAMBAYAD NG UTANG!”

That’s what “Mga Pusang Gala” (“Stray Cats”) director-producer Ellen Ongkeko-Marfil said when asked over dinner last Wednesday how she will spend the $10,000 prize she got for winning the Dockers First Feature Award at the recent San Francisco International Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) film festival.

Ellen, a UP alumna and erstwhile Peta (Philippine Educational Theater Association) actress, almost missed accepting her trophy during the awards night. She was planning to leave San Francisco for nearby Oakland after her official stay as a film fest guest ended, when the festival’s executive director asked her to stay for the Closing Night party. That was a good omen for the filmmaker behind “Mga Pusang Gala,” which stars Ricky Davao, Irma Adlawan, Reggie Curly, Lauren Novelo and Alchris Galura.

Small world

We raised glasses of red wine and toasted Ellen twice—for her triumph in the San Francisco film fest, which was celebrating its 30th anniversary (hence the name of this year’s event, Frameline30); and for signing up that day in LA with Ariztical Entertainment for the film’s international release.

We also cheered how small our world really is. Ellen’s brother, JR Ongkeko, is married to Chit Bauzon Ongkeko, niece of my elementary school teacher in Calasiao, Pangasinan. And now, Mara Ongkeko, Ellen’s niece and JR and Chit’s daughter, is the high school classmate of our youngest daughter, Ella.

Since Lino Brocka’s nephew, Q. Allan Brocka, won the same award two years ago, Ellen and I couldn’t help but reminisce about Lino. We learned that Ellen had a small role in Lino’s Peta staging of “Larawan,” which we had watched. As a filmmaker, Lino was fast but passionate, according to Ellen, who worked behind the scenes for the late great director.

Very Pinoy

As a person, the late great Filipino filmmaker was “malambing,” said Ellen. To this day, she is grateful that Lino wrote a letter of recommendation that made it possible for her to get a scholarship in video production in France.

By coincidence, Ellen and Lino were on the same flight to Paris when she left Manila for the two-month course. Upon landing in France, Ellen teased Lino about why he had a larger suitcase despite the fact that he was going to be in the French capital for only five days. According to Ellen, Lino revealed that he had packed lots of adobo in his luggage so he won’t miss Pinoy food.

Ellen narrated that one of the San Francisco jurors jokingly told her that with the $10,000 she won, she could make more queer films. She might direct a horror movie next although she has four other movie projects in the slate.

Still-shy Keanu

In our interview with Keanu Reeves last year for “Constantine,” the one lingering image that stayed in our mind to this day was that of the actor seeming to press, with his bare arms, imaginary creases on the tablecloth as he answered journalists’ questions. The man appeared shy, uncomfortable with media scrutiny despite many years in the industry, and very private.

Cut to the present—a press con for his two new movies, “The Lake House” and “A Scanner Darkly.” Keanu is still just as shy, awkward in the interview format and fiercely protective of his privacy. Of course we like our interview subjects to be loquacious and quotable but we don’t expect all actors to be glib and gushing with sound bites. In this regard, we respect and have come to expect Keanu for what he is—a man of few words.

He didn’t hesitate to say, “It’s none of your business; that’s personal,” in response to a colleague’s persistent line of questioning.

In “The Lake House,” a remake of a Korean movie, “Il Mare,” Keanu and his “Speed” co-star Sandra Bullock are reunited as two lovers who discover that they’re actually living two years apart. They must try to solve the mystery to save their extraordinary romance.

Live to animation

Keanu’s other new movie, “A Scanner Darkly,” is interesting because it was shot as a live action and then transformed into an animated film using a technology known as “interpolated rotoscoping.” Set in the future, Keanu plays an undercover cop whose assignment to spy on his friends launches him on a paranoid journey into the absurd.

The two movies are as different as night and day. Keanu, dressed in his favorite getup of black tee, jacket and pants, spelled it out: “‘The Lake House’ is a love story. ‘A Scanner Darkly’ is a comedy and a tragedy. I don’t think of these works as being science fiction or fantastical. I think they’re very human stories.”

Asked if he sees a parallel in the story of “Scanner” and what’s going on in the US, where the government has admitted that it is spying on “suspicious” phone conversations, he replied, “I don’t think it’s just the United States. I would say all cities around the world have to come up against this technology about surveillance. I think about how it’s used and abused. The thing that seems to be happening is that there’s just no redress. No one’s watching the keeper of the information and protesting about the loss of personal rights. The powers of the entities that control information seem to be increasing while the individual’s rights are diminishing.”

In touch with Sandra

Of Sandra, he revealed this much: “Sandra and I have kept in touch over the years. We’ve had some dinners. She’s written me some letters when I was in Australia working on a film.”

An avid reader, Keanu was more forthright with his current reading fare. “I just finished Timothy Leary’s biography, which was really good because it covers the period from the ’50s to the ’90s,” he said. “It was interesting to have that kind of cultural view of America, what happened through the years of counter culture. I am starting to read another Graham Greene novel. I’ve also been reading (F. Scott) Fitzgerald.”

When a reporter asked when was he settling down, since he was now in his 40s (he turns 42 in September), Keanu responded with, “Who knows? No comment.” But then he added, “I’d like to [settle down]—it’s certainly something I haven’t done.”

“I-WITNESS,” GMA 7’S LATE-night documentary program, was suspended for two weeks by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) because of “violations” committed in the episode “Lukayo: Hindi Ito Bastos,” aired on May 22.

The MTRCB’s decision was indicated in a memorandum dated June 22 and addressed to Jose Mari Abacan, vice president for program management of GMA 7, and Howie Severino, “I-Witness” host and head writer.

The memo was signed by MTRCB chair Ma. Consoliza “Marissa” Laguardia.

It resulted from the adjudication hearing called by the board on June 6 and attended by GMA 7 representatives Severino, Nessa Valdellon, vice president for Public Affairs, Ella Evangelista, executive producer of “I-Witness,” and lawyer Dick Perez, vice president for Legal Affairs.

The complaint involved the ritual dance, Lukayo, first documented by National Artist and ethnologist Ramon Obusan. The Laguna-based tradition was described in the memo as depicting “women [wearing] wooden [phalluses] of exaggerated sizes … and [an] act of masturbation.”

Laguardia pointed out: “Presidential Decree 1986 substantially provides that any television program that does not conform to the ‘G’ and ‘PG’ classification may not be aired … phalluses and masturbation do not fall within the ‘G’ and ‘PG’ classification, applying contemporary Filipino values and good customs as standards.”

In a phone interview with Inquirer Entertainment, Severino said the suspension “highlighted several issues”—foremost of which was the “basic disagreement within our society on what is moral and immoral, on what can or cannot be shown on television.”

Severino said this could serve as a “test” case. “A major question raised is ‘Where do we draw the line?’ The MTRCB has drawn the line. Those who value freedom of expression believe that the line can be moved ... if more people became enlightened.”

Laguardia told Inquirer, also in a phone interview: “We must take note that it was shown on national television … the general public may not be used to a small-town ritual like Lukayo.”

She clarified in the memo that the board wasn’t “passing judgment on the culture or tradition of indigenous communities.”

TV exec offended

The chief censor recounted that, in the June 6 adjudication meeting, one of the network’s officers “admitted that she was initially offended by what she saw … [and only] appreciated the documentary when the [cultural aspect] was explained to her.”

Laguardia identified the GMA official as Valdellon. She said Valdellon’s admission offered proof that the “program had objectionable content… unfortunately, not all viewers could have the tradition explained to them.”

The suspension was “effective immediately” upon receipt of the notice.

“Since we received the letter on Wednesday [June 28], the program will not go on air on July 3 and 10,” Severino, who recently received the TV Investigative Journalist of the Year award given by the Rotary Club of Manila, said.

He was not disputing the decision, he clarified. “We were given due process. We were allowed to explain our side. Mr. Obusan was also present during the hearing.”

He said he was glad for the chance to see how the board worked, adding: “We are law-abiding members of the television industry and the MTRCB is the regulatory board governing the industry.”

Taylor Reuben Hicks(born October 6, 1976) is an American soul singer, songwriter, and musician. He is the winner of the fifth season of American Idol, beating out Katharine McPhee for the title. He is known for his sometimes energetic performances on stage. His fans are most commonly known as the "Soul Patrol".

Early life

Taylor Hicks was born in the Saint Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. As an infant, he had blond hair. His hair color turned dark brown/black as an adolescent, and started turning gray by the time he was 15. He and his family moved to suburban Hoover when he was 8 years old. His parents divorced when he was 8, and his father Brad, a dentist, and stepmother Linda shared custody until he became of age. His half-brother, Sean, is a student at Georgia Tech and plays trumpet in the school's jazz band.[3]

Growing up in Hoover, Hicks played Little League baseball, golf, and varsity basketball.[3] According to his grandmother Jonie, Hicks never had formal music lessons. He came running up to her when he was about twelve years old saying, "Grandma, you've got to hear this!" Then he sang Otis Redding's "Try A Little Tenderness" for her. According to his father, when he was 5 years old he sang to random strangers the music of Kenny Rogers or Michael Jackson, to name a few.[3] He plays guitar as well as blues harp and writes most of his own songs. [4] Hicks bought his first harmonica when he was 16.[5]

Hicks was a former student of Berry High School and graduated from Hoover High School in 1995. He attended Auburn University, majoring in business, communications and marketing for a year, but lost interest and dropped out. He moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a music career and has worked with Nashville veterans Billy Earle McClelland and Percy Sledge.[6] Later, he graduated from University of Alabama at Birmingham.[7]

Career

Hicks' professional music career began with performances at various venues, including the Playboy Mansion.[2] He released two independent albums, In Your Time (1997) and Under the Radar (2005), prior to appearing on Idol though he never held a recording contract so he did not violate their requirements for contestants. Hicks has also spoken on Tapestry, a radio program on National Public Radio affiliate WBHM in Birmingham, in December 2005. [8]

American Idol

Hicks auditioned for American Idol in Las Vegas, Nevada. He originally wanted to try out in Memphis but the site was cancelled due to Hurricane Katrina. Also, he was touring in New Orleans with his band, the Little Memphis Blues Orchestra, on the night Hurricane Katrina hit and used a ticket voucher to fly to Las Vegas. [9] Hicks passed the audition by the approval of judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul, but not Simon Cowell, who said that Hicks would never make it to the final round. Cowell called back to this quote in a later episode and admitted he was wrong. After advancing to the final three contestants, Hicks gave a short concert and promotional appearance before several thousand fans at the Riverchase Galleria.[10]

On the May 10, 2006 results, Hicks was in the top 2 along with Katharine McPhee, and they made the Top 3 with Elliot Yamin. On May 12, Idol producers brought Hicks to Birmingham for a weekend of promotional events including television interviews for the local FOX affiliate, a downtown parade and mini-concert, another concert at the Riverchase Galleria, a mall in his hometown, an evening appearance at the Birmingham Museum of Art, and a campaign appearance with Governor Bob Riley and Mayor Bernard Kincaid.[11] May 12 was proclaimed "Taylor Hicks Day" and Hicks was given the key to the city.[11]

Hicks was named the new American Idol on May 24, competing against Katharine McPhee. A total of 63.4 million votes were cast, with Hicks receiving more than any previous Idol winner.[12] With his win, Hicks (at 29) became the oldest person to win American Idol, only the second male to win the contest (after Ruben Studdard), and is the only man to win the contest against a woman in the finale. He is also the first and only white man to win American Idol and the fifth Southerner to win American Idol. He is the second American Idol from Alabama after season 2 winner Ruben Studdard, but is the third finalist from Alabama along with Studdard and Season 4 runner-up Bo Bice. He is the third person to win the competition without ever being in the bottom two or three (after Kelly Clarkson & Carrie Underwood) and the only man (as of Season 5) to attain such a feat (although Clay Aiken was never in the bottom 2 or 3, he did not win the Idol competition).

Fans

Fans of Hicks have been dubbed the "Soul Patrol".[13] Hicks frequently mentions the Soul Patrol after performances and in subsequent appearances by exclaiming, "Soul Patrol! Soul Patrol! Soul Patrol!". After winning Idol, for example, Ryan Seacrest asked if he had any parting words and Hicks yelled, "Soul Patrol!".[14] Hicks became the subject of two Weekend Update lampoons on NBC's Saturday Night Live on April 15 and May 20, 2006, portrayed by cast member Jason Sudeikis. In an allusion to Hicks' quirkiness and disposition, Sudeikis mocked playing Hicks' trademark blues harmonica and repeatedly shouted out "Soul Patrol!". Hicks, when interviewed by Ryan Seacrest on the subsequent episode of American Idol on April 18, 2006 as to whether or not he saw the imitation, admitted that he had and that the impression made him "fall out on the floor" with laughter. During a promotional event for Idol in Alabama Hicks "inducted" Governor Bob Riley and his wife into the Soul Patrol.[15] Hicks also has two goldfish, named Lamont and Ray, around whom fans have created and maintain a blog. Katharine Hope McPhee (born March 25, 1984) is an American singer who was the runner-up on the fifth season of American Idol. She came in second to Taylor Hicks.

Early career

Born in the Sherman Oaks district of Los Angeles, McPhee has been singing since the age of two. Her mother, Peisha Burch McPhee[1], a vocal coach and accomplished cabaret singer, recognized a talent for music in her daughter and started training her. McPhee graduated in the class of 2002 from Notre Dame High School after which she attended The Boston Conservatory for three semesters with a concentration in musical theater. She left because she met a manager who wanted her to try out for parts during the television pilot season in Los Angeles. She did a pilot and an independent film.[2] At the Cabrillo Music Theater in Thousand Oaks, California, she performed the title role in a musical theatre production of Annie Get Your Gun. In June 2005 she played Anna Muir in The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, a musical by Scott DeTurk and Bill Francoeur, at NoHo Arts Center in North Hollywood.

During her initial audition for American Idol in San Francisco, she sang "God Bless the Child." Judge Randy Jackson said she was the best voice he had heard so far that season, judge Paula Abdul praised her looks, and judge Simon Cowell said she was amazing and "current." McPhee's mother had gone with her to the audition, and Cowell made a comment about the possibility that the elder McPhee was a stage mother.

In the final cut-down show for the Top 24, McPhee was the first to be put through and, in excitement, kissed all three judges on the lips. She cried both when she passed her initial audition and when she made it into the Top 24.

In the first round of the semi-finals, she sang Barbra Streisand's version of Buddy Johnson's "Since I Fell for You," again earning high praises as Cowell said that out of the four "very, very good vocalists" of the night, she was the best.

During the week leading to the third round of the semi-finals, where McPhee sang Aretha Franklin's "Think," she was rumored to be quitting due to pregnancy. However, during the performance show on March 7, 2006, she denied this accusation, later attributing it to a poor choice of clothing. Host Ryan Seacrest, with tongue-in-cheek, asked about her and fellow Idol contestant Kevin Covais.

During the week preceding the top 3 show, McPhee visited her former high school for her hometown celebration.[3]

McPhee's run on American Idol led to the popular use of the term "McPheever," coined by Ralph Garman of Los Angeles radio station KROQ's morning show Kevin and Bean, and also "McPhan," "McPhaith" and "Kat Pack."

On the May 23, 2006, edition of NBC's Today Show, Katie Couric mentioned news reports saying that Katharine's greatest assets are her looks and strong fan base, while her greatest liability is the fact that her performances suffer when she is under pressure.

On 24 May 2006, Katharine was announced as runner-up on American Idol. The winner was Taylor Hicks.

o The theme was 1950's, and once again the judges were very impressed. Jackson noted that it wasn't her best vocal performance, but it was still great. Abdul agreed wholeheartedly. Cowell noted that it was the performance that made her a star.
* March 28, 2006 - "The Voice Within," Christina Aguilera - (Bottom 3)
o The theme was songs of the 21st century. Jackson thought she should have changed the performance up to make it her own. Abdul said she wouldn't change a thing. Cowell said it was the best that night so far, and almost as good as Aguilera. During the results show, however, McPhee was placed in the bottom three, and Cowell stated that upon viewing the playback, she wasn't nearly as good as he thought.
* April 4, 2006 - "Bringing Out The Elvis," Faith Hill
o The theme for the night was country. McPhee was the eighth of nine performers that night. Jackson said: "Kind of bluesy country, yeah? I like it. You sang it very nice, very nice. Good job, dawg, good job." Abdul said: "That is your style; that's your niche. You look sexy, hot. You're cool." Cowell, looking a bit bewildered, said: "I don't know what to say anymore; I really don't. That song was just so peculiar." At this point McPhee spoke up and said: "Simon, you just don't like country music. It's okay. Just say it," with which Cowell agreed, saying: "You're right, I don't, I don't. I hate it."
* April 11, 2006 - "Who Wants to Live Forever," Queen
o The theme was songs by Queen, and McPhee performed fifth out of eight contestants. The judges' reactions were as follows: Jackson said: "This is your element, I mean a little Broadway, big song, kind of big voice. It was a little pitchy in spots, and I thought at some points it was a little big for you, but you did a good job, I think, all in all." Abdul said: "You made the right decision to just stand there and be glorious, with your glorious voice. I mean it's a song that big singers like Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand take on; and you, Katharine McPhee, can handle it, and you did a great job." Cowell said: "Katharine, I mean that was almost the moment. You know, I agree with Randy [Jackson], I think there were some tuning problems at parts. I think you owe a big kiss to the director and the lighting director there, because they made you look amazing — I mean really good. But overall I think it was probably one of the strongest tonight. Yeah. Very good." McPhee then responded, “Thank you, I know, I do. Thank you, guys,” in response to Cowell's comment about owing the directors a kiss, as she turned and thanked them.
* April 18, 2006 - "Someone to Watch Over Me," George Gershwin
o The theme was "The Great American Songbook" by Rod Stewart. McPhee performed last that night. Jackson said that McPhee was in her "element." Abdul believed that she picked the perfect song and told her that it was like watching her for the very first time, and that she had fallen in love with her all over again. Cowell said that she made the others look like "good amateurs." He told her she was the best of the night, and that she was elegant and sang like a returning pro. Rod Stewart himself told her that he believed she was born to sing the Standards, and that he couldn't think of anything else to say about her, other than the fact that she was brilliant.
* April 25, 2006 - "I Have Nothing," Whitney Houston - (Top 2)
o The theme was "Greatest Love Songs." Jackson said that it was a good song choice but it was too big for her. Abdul said she was stunning but believed it was too pitchy. Cowell said that by coming out and singing that song she was saying she is as good as Whitney Houston. Seacrest jokingly remarked that McPhee would get votes from anybody with the volume turned down. The following night, Cowell took back his statement, saying that when he watched it back, it was a good performance. Jackson also apologized by saying that he had been a little bit "too harsh." McPhee was among the top two vote getters on elimination night along with fellow contestant Chris Daughtry.

For "Against All Odds," Jackson thought her performance may have been in the wrong key for Katharine's voice, but it was OK. Abdul said it wasn't her favorite song choice for her. Cowell said that in parts the song was a mess, and that it ran away from her. They all thought she looked stunning in her dress. For "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree," Jackson liked seeing the old McPhee back. Abdul loved the intimacy and the choreography. For "Can't Help Falling in Love," she received mixed reviews, as well as Abdul commenting that she preferred "Katharine having fun" and Simon noting the song as being "pitchy." On May 10, 2006, McPhee was in the bottom two with Chris Daughtry. Daughtry was eliminated from the competition.

o Clive Davis chose R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly" for McPhee. Jackson thought she did well, but the song choice was bad and she wasn't "that singer." Abdul, after some pause and inspiration from an audience member, said that McPhee was incredible, and that she looked fabulous. Cowell enjoyed the performance.
o Cowell chose "Over the Rainbow" (originally made famous by Judy Garland) for McPhee. Jackson was blown away, calling her "a hot one," and declaring that she had the best song of the season. Mega kilig nga naman ito kasi MUNTIKAN NA SILA MAGKISS! Napag-alaman ko na si Princess ngayon ay si Sam Bumatay pala noon. Get the ratings right

ABS-CBN chairman and president Gabby Lopez was quoted stating to reporters during the corporation’s annual stockholders meeting that their sales pitch to advertisers is that even if the mega Manila ratings between GMA and ABS-CBN look neck-to-neck, the latter is “actually ahead significantly in Metro Manila where the higher disposable income is.”

My curiosity triggered by Gabby’s surprising claim, I contacted my source who has access to the official AGBNMR Philippines ratings and asked for the breakdown of the mega Manila ratings, namely the Metro Manila and the suburbs. I was given a copy of the AGBNMR numbers from January to April 2006 for the total day and evening segment ratings and, lo and behold, nowhere in the mega Manila, Metro Manila or Suburb ratings did ABS-CBN rate higher than GMA!

The total day figures posted from January to April 2006 showed GMA with a mega Manila household average of 18.0 while ABS-CBN only scored 13.4. The breakdown showed GMA rating 17.0 in Metro Manila and 20.1 in the suburbs with ABS-CBN posting 14.4 in Metro Manila and 11.3 in the suburbs. So where did Gabby get the idea that ABS-CBN is “ahead significantly” in Metro Manila?

Perhaps it’s just a recent win. So I checked the total day ratings for April 2006 alone. Mega Manila ratings for April showed GMA with 17.2 and ABS-CBN with 12.2. The Metro Manila figures also showed no sign of an ABS-CBN win because GMA scored 15.8 versus ABS-CBN’s 13.5. And if you throw in the suburbs ratings for April, it’s definitely GMA’s game with a glaring 19.9 score over ABS-CBN’s 9.8.

Given what I discovered in the AGBNMR ratings, it really makes me wonder why Gabby reported what he did in the annual stockholders meeting. Was he giving their stockholders false hopes?

Preferred newscast

GMA Network’s primetime newscast, 24 Oras, is still the preferred newscast by mega Manila viewers to date, according to recent ratings data from AGBNMR.

AGBNMR mega Manila TV household ratings from April 1 to 30, (with April 23 to 28 data based on overnight ratings) shows 24 Oras posting an average 25.6 against the TV Patrol’s 20.4 percent (Monday to Friday).

Relative to Metro Manila ratings, mega Manila ratings data are the accepted figures in terms of research evaluations and client presentations. “Very few clients look at the Metro Manila ratings because mega Manila represents one major market, and not a collection of many markets. Thus breaking down the ratings into Metro Manila and suburbs is not generally done,” according to GMA Marketing and Productions Inc. president Manuel Quiogue.

ABS-CBN, in an article published in the Philippine Daily Inquirer last May 3, used only Metro Manila ratings to claim that “in the past three weeks, TV Patrol has been posting higher ratings in three out of five days.”

But ABS-CBN’s claim, according to GMA Network’s head for corporate communications Butch Raquel is not only incomplete, but is also inaccurate based on data. “Metro Manila ratings, as against mega Manila ratings where TV Patrol has never won a single day versus 24 Oras, shows that TV Patrol won over 24 Oras only five times over a period of four weeks of April and three of these wins were even less than one rating point,” Raquel said.

Raquel also said since the launch of 24 Oras’ new multimillion, high-tech and state-of-the-art set three weeks ago, the Kapuso primetime newscast has generally registered stronger ratings as compared to its competitor. “24 Oras even posted an 11-point plus rating advantage over TV Patrol last May 2 and 3, and an almost 6-point advantage for its May 1 Labor Day coverage, based on overnight ratings data from AGBNM,” Raquel said.

“Ratings also show that GMA News is the preferred news source during significant events such as the Feb. 24 State of national emergency declaration, Marine headquarters standoff last Feb. 26, the landslide of Guinsaugon in St. Bernard, Southern Leyte, and the events related to the “Hello Garci” controversy last year,” Raquel added.

Significantly, 24 Oras has also captured the viewers’ preference in other key cities such as Iloilo, Cebu and Davao, with Cebu and Davao being former strongholds of ABS-CBN.

Grabeh. Buti naabutan ko. ASAP Champions sang GMA Network's hits. And they sang it badly. Hahahaha. They labelled them as "Radio Hits" The last two songs na lang ang naabutan ko. Kinanta ni Rachelle Ann Go yung "In The Name of Love" by Yasmien Kurdi. (As in sa baba ng screen nakalagay pa yung title at pangalan ni Yasmien) Nadisgust talaga ako sa pagkakakanta niya kasi she tried to curl it eh hindi naman dapat.

Guess what the last song they sang? Of course, "Pangarap na Bituin" by Faith Cuneta. And guess who sang it?(Or should I say "Horribly Sang" it?) Its Sarah Geronimo na as in grabe nakakahiya. Sha pa naman ang magrerevive ng Sharon's Bituing...

Wala lang naman. Nasintunado lang naman si Sarah at hindi nahit yung note sa lyrics na "tibay ng damdamin" (Yung highest note ba sa huling chorus). Bale yung Highest note pa sa bridge ng "Pangarap" nagkabalebalentong din.

The year 2005 will be remembered in Philippine broadcast history as the milestone when GMA Network Channel 7 completed the humiliation of rival ABS-CBN Broadcast Corp. whose main property is Channel 2.

GMA Network 7 completely dominated Channel 2 in terms of gross revenues, net income, top 12 television programs in terms of genre (only one was grabbed by Channel 2), audience ratings and audience share.

ABS-CBN's gross airtime revenues went down 8% to P9.36 billion last year. Profits nosedived by a precipitous 62% to P288 million which already was a 25% drop from 2003's P1.008 billion.

ABS-CBN also had the misfortune of an unexpected tragedy, the stampede at the Ultra last January in which more than 70 died and scores were wounded.

In two years, the broadcast giant's income fell by a whopping 71%.

GMA Network finally exceeded Channel 2's airtime revenues, with P9.7 billion in revenues last year, 24% higher than the previous high of P7.8 billion made in 2004.

Profits were a stupendous P2 billion, a new record and exceeding last year's high of P1.5 billion by 34%.

In 2005, GMA maintained its lead in Mega Manila tv ratings in all day parts, including the fiercely contested prime time.

GMA Network's regional news programs in Iloilo, Cebu, and Davao as well as its national prirnetime news program 24 Oras also took the top spot in ratings in the said areas.

Awash with cash, GMA Network prepaid the balance of its five year long term loan of P1.9 billion last February, nine months ahead of the scheduled due date of November 2005.

GMA Pinoy TV, which was launched in the US, Japan, Guam, and Malaysia last year and the Middle East and Cerritos, California this year continues to increase its subscriber base. As of March 2006, GMA Pinoy TV already has 80,000 subscribers.

Since its launch in November 2005, QTV Channel 11 has maintained its hold on the number three spot in ratings.

The Network's film outfit, GMA Films, released blockbuster film Let the Love Begin in 2005. GMA Films also produced the movie version of "Mulawin" last year. its latest movie, "Moments of Love", did well.

How did Channel 7 conquer Channel 2?

GMA Network CEO Felipe "Henry" Gozon has one word for it:

Credibility. "Journalistic integrity and credibility makes for good business,"~ he enthuses.

"We are accurate, objective, balanced, comprehensive,"' Gozon toid a group of economic journalists recently. In plain words, "serbisyong totoo" (genuine service). And to elaborate, "we are neutral. As a responsible media organization, our duty is to provide our public with information from all sides, so that they can make informed and intelligent decisions." .

Ooooops. May nanganganib pala kasi may nagtanong tungkol sa outside world. Hindi ko lang sure kung considered yung itanong ng isang housemate about kung maraming tao sa labas. WHY MEGAMANILA RATINGS are VERY important

1. Survey results are the main concern of advertisers. Currently there are only two main sources of TV survey reports: AC Nielsen and Audits of Great Britain (AGB). Overnight ratings are only done in the Manila area where the bulk of consumers are situated. This includes the cities and municipalities of Metro Manila and the 1neighboring provinces of Laguna, Rizal, Cavite and Bulacan.

2. Of more than 80 million Filipinos, 10.2 million live in Metro Manila alone! Cavite has a population of 1.9 million, Rizal has 1.7 million, Laguna has 1.7 million and Bulacan has 2.2 million. 7. Metro Manila, Cavite, Rizal, Laguna and Bulacan are in the top ten richest provinces of the Philippines with lower poverty incidences. Metro Manila consumers are the most important to advertisers because of its high standard of living. Nearly 100% of the upper class have TV sets, 94% of the middle class have TV sets and 46% of the lower class have TV sets.

8. Generally, Filipinos watch about 200 minutes of television daily. This high level of viewing is only second to Japanese viewers. 9. There is a ‘culture of centralism’ where most of the TV programs are produced in Manila. National headquarters of the TV networks are located in Metro Manila.

10. Metro Cebu, Metro Davao and Dagupan does not represent the viewing habits of the rest of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Viewing habits vary considerably from city to city. Metro Cebu (where ABS-CBN leads) does not represent the viewing habit of the whole Visayas because it differs with the viewing habit of Iloilo (where GMA-7 leads), another large city in the Visayas. Dagupan does not represent the viewing habit of the rest of Luzon because it has a relatively high cable penetration of 50%; the national average cable penetration rate is only 11%. Metro Davao does not represent the viewing habit of the rest of Mindanao because of its small percentage of the total TV households in Mindanao.

11. As what history shows, the provinces follow the trend in Metro Manila. ABS-CBN became number 1 in Metro Manila in 1988. It took them quite a while to grab the lead in the provinces. The company became number 1 in the Visayas in the early 1990’s. It only became number 1 in Mindanao in the late 1990’s when they started to put up TV relay stations in the key cities of Mindanao.

12. Advertising is also centered in Metro Manila. It spends $347 million dollar in advertising spending. That is almost 20 billion pesos. So TV advertising is really important. Company profit and revenues reflect the company performance in the Manila area.

According to infomamedia.com, it is projected that by 2010, total number of Philippine TV households would increase to 10.689 million. Cable penetration would increase to almost 15%.

Observations:

1. Assuming the ratings are true:
If GMA controls 46% of the audience share in Mega Manila and ABS-CBN controls 34% of Mega Manila audience share, it would equate to 1.61 million households for GMA and 1.19 million for ABS-CBN. The difference is a significant 420,000 TV households or 2,100,000 million people. That is a number larger than any of the total TV households of Metro Cebu or Metro Davao. If we are to analyze the other ratings and take those as representative of the national scene, the battle for supremacy would be a close fight between GMA and ABS-CBN. It would be interesting to know who would be the number 1 station. Right now, GMA enjoys the status of being number 1 with all the ratings, revenues, and profits. But one thing is for sure, this has been the most intense and closest competition in the history of Philippine television.

2. If we are to add the total number of households of Metro Manila, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Cavite, Metro Cebu, Metro Davao and Dagupan. Metro Cebu would only constitute 6.1%, Metro Davao 5.4%, Dagupan 0.7% and Metro Manila and its neighboring provinces would constitute 87.8%. This is quite similar to the weights given by AC Nielsen on its survey in Mega Manila 87%, Metro Cebu 6%, Metro Davao 6% and Dagupan 1%. So the combined ratings released by AC Nielsen are statistically acceptable.

3. Mega Manila ratings are essential for advertisers and TV stations. GMA significantly lead in the Manila area. Because of this, GMA performs better financially. For the past three years, GMA has been the most profitable broadcast company in the country. It outdone ABS-CBN in 2002 and 2003 when it was just beginning to eat the ratings gap of ABS-CBN. Then in 2004 the big switch happened in the ratings, and GMA inched its way further in the profit game. And for the early part of 2005, ABS-CBN suffered its first financial loss and GMA continued to increase its earnings. That is why ABS-CBN is eager to take back the lead in the Mega Manila area.

But, Metro Manila is a BIG part of Mega Manila. Kaya wag na magilusyon. Wag maniwala sa FABRICATED RATINGS!

The First Celebrities I Met

Ayon sa aking alaala first year high school ako unang nakakita ng true celebs. At mapalad ako coz Kapuso Stars pa ang na meet ko noon.

May pasok non when my mom (who is working @ Philippine Carabao Center dito sa Nueva Ecija) excitedly reported to me and said that the stars of Twin Hearts would be coming at the Dairy Farm and have a shoot there. Nakakatuwa kasi...i cant explain... Basta nakakatuwa.

After classes dumeretso agad ako sa Dairy Farm. Nakakaasar. Nagulat ako. Dahil pagbaba ko sa trike sa tapat ng isang Pajero biglang may lumabas na lalaking nakacowboy hat. Shit. Si Railey Valeroso (yung dating ka loveteam ni Angel Locsin). As in nagulat talaga ako. Mabilis siyang pinapasok sa compound ng Dairy Farm dahil nagkakagulo na sa labas. Muntik na akong hindi makapasok kasi anghigpit ng security. Buti na lang at isinabay ako ng isang katrabaho ni Mommy.

So nakapasok nga ako. Sinalubong ako ni Mommy at pinapunta ako dun sa mismong shooting place. WOW. ang kinukuhanan pala nilang scene eh yung naggagatas sila ng kalabaw. Sumandal ako sa wall looking at the cameras (angganda talaga) when suddenly may isang actor na natapos sa shoot nya tapos tumabi sa akin. Di ko pa siya kilala noon kasi hindi pa siya ganun kasikat. Nang tiningnan ko narecognize ko ang mukha. Si Glenn to ah...Si Dennis Trillo! Nang napansin nya na nakatingin ako sa kanya tumingin sha. Nabigla na naman ako kaya hindi agad gumana ang mga reflexes ko. Then he said "Hello!". Isang celeb naghehello? Sumagot na lang din ako ng "Hi!". Grabe first time ko nakameet ng celeb nakausap ko pa.

Bale ang mga nandoong celeb ay sina Angel Locsin (ambait ni Angel. Palatawa pa (",) Railey Valeroso (nag-sosmoke pala sha. eeeew) si Tanya Garcia (na nagmumuka lang palang maputi sa TV kasi parang espasol ang mukha) and shempre ang ating idol na si Dennis Trillo. Actually may autograph ako ni Tanya at ni Dennis...Nawala lang. Kung maalala ko hindi script ang signature ni Dennis. Astig nga eh. May pic din ako ni Angel. Ala lang.

Marami pa silang kinunan na scene pero shempre dahil ginagabi na umuwi na kami...Haaayy...

That is it! Andami ko nang nakwento. Sana marami pa akong mameet na celebs...pwede na yung buong cast ng Enca. Ahahahahahah...

PBB Teen Edition Alert: Housemate Niña Watches Encantadia

Nashock talaga ako kahapon. I was watching PBB 24/7 sa cable namin when i caught this Niña (Assumptionista na maganda, yung unang girl na pumasok sa PBB House) saying "I like Iza Calzado!" sabay tanong sa isang housemate, "Nanonood ka ba ng Encantadia?". Yung plastic naman na tinanong nya ang sinagot "ah, hindi eh, cable shows lang pinanonood ko." As in hindi daw nya kilala si IZA CALZADO! Nakilala lang nya nung sinabi ni Niña na si Iza yung nasa Milan.

Grabe, wala talagang sinasanto ang Enca. Kahit mapasosyal o mapajologs.

Dun sa Top shows yung AMR dagdagan mo lang ng "000" yun yung dami ng tao na nanood nung palabas na yon. Mapapansin din na mukhang mataas yung rating share nung ibang program kahit na nasa bandang baba ito. nagkakaiba kasi ng dami ng nanonood kaya ganun. Yung share eh yung percent ng tao per population.For example, yung starsturck may 41 point something, it means 41 % nung population nung time na yon na nanonood ng tv ay nanood ng starstruck. Okay?

At oo nga pala, natutunan ko na nakokonsider na nanood ka ng palabas na yon if you watched at least ONE MINUTE nung palabas na yon! Kaya, salamat, Kapamilya sa pasulyap-sulyap mong panonood ng GMA shows! Nakakapagpataas ng ratings!!! Ahahahahah!!! It means na kahit one minute mo lang panoorin kasama ka na sa points sa ratings! Get nyo???

Regal Film's ZSAZSA Zaturnnah

Si Rufa Mae Quinto ang isinasuggest na gumanap dito at si Rustom ang magiging alter ego nito. By the way, ang character dito ni Rustom ay isang gay beautician.

Ngunit may mga news na napakataas ng idinedemand na TF ni Rustom dito. Ayon sa Abante, 2 M plus 5% gross ng film ang gusto nya. Kaya ngayon ay pinag-iisipan ng Regal na si Ogie Alcasid na lang ang gawing alter ego ni ZsaZsa Zaturnnah. Hindi parin daw sure na si Rufa ang gaganap dahil ikinokonsider daw nila na si Jennylyn Mercado ang maging Superheroine.(bad idea...)

Si Eula Valdes ang unang gumanap nito sa isang theater show.

Little Big Stars' Winners

At last natapos na rin ang Little Big Star at naiannounce na ang mga winners nito. Actually, I am happy to the little division winner (sorry nakalimutan ko ang pangalan) kasi deserve naman nya. Anggaling galing nga eh. Talo pa yung ilang PPS contestants (sa totoo lang!). The thing i was disagreeing with is bakit si SAM CONCEPCION ang nanalo bagaman Charice Pempengco is far better than him. Tandaan, singing contest ito! Pero I cant blame him kasi mas mataas ata ang percentage ng star quality over voice eh (hindi nga dapat ganun yon.). Pero okay na rin. Marunong naman sha kumanta and can sing also...ok...

Good Luck na lang sa kanila! Sana mabigyan ng break si Charice, hindi ba? anggaling nya kasi eh!

By the way, to mikmik, i am not pointing at PANDAY's effects. I believe maganda ang effects nito esp. the big butterflies nuong first season. Thank You for Commenting! I appreciate it.

Panday comes back, and what?

I've heard na nagbalik na ang grandest and most expensive production for TV ng ABS-CBN, ang Panday. Suggestion lang. Dapat hindi nila ganoong pinatagal ang pagpapalabas ng mga sususnod ng episodes, biruin mo, three months na nawala sa ere. May mga bagay kasi na pag matagal nawala, nakakalimutan na. Hindi na alam ng mga tao kung ano yung nangyari nung mga nakaraang episodes nung december kaya, hindi ba, parang, yung sense of continuity ng storya, parang nawala.

Is it true na dahil kay Heart and Jericho kaya hindi maipalapalabas nang maaga ang Panday? I think they are loving each other too much.

Maganda naman kasi sana ang Panday kung hindi nila ginawang love story. Hindi ba yung mga pelikula ni FPJ na Panday hindi naman involved yung mga love team love team na yan, diba? Tapos kumita pa. if they just relied on the original at hindi na nila binago pa ang plot siguro it could have been better. Nice, diba?

Hindi kasi ako nanonood ng Panday so hindi ko alam kung anong mga meron doon. Ang narinig ko lang eh may cellphone daw na involved nung unang yugto at may pinoy shrek daw? If that's the case, malamang, ther is something wrong with it. Sorry, pero i think wala talaga ako sa lugar para i judge ang Panday coz hindi ko naman pinanood.

Oooooh...what i loved about panday ay yung pag magsisimula na..yung Panday na nakaengrave sa sword? cute yon!!!ahahahahahhaha!

As what i've said before, mahal na mahal ko ang GMA seven kasi it makes my day complete. Gumanda ang production ng GMA nung inupgrade nila ang facilities nila noong 2002. Well, paunti unti lang yun noon. Hindi gaanong pansin pero it just mean that mabilis ang improvement nila. Actually, inutang lang nila yung pinangupgrade nila ng facilities. Pero ang maganda nabayaran nila ito earliest before the deadline. Anggaling diba?

I can't blame ABS for their falling profit. Member kasi sila ng KBP so controlled ang dami ng commercials na puede nilang ipalabas. I change my mind. May mali nga pala talaga sa management at concepts ng shows ng ABS.

Malaki ang nagagawa ng ratings. Pag mataas ang ratings mas mapaparami ang commercials sa timeslot na yon. Kya kung mataas ang ratings, mataas ang kita.

WOW. GMA has earned 2 billion Pesos while down to almost 200 million lang ang ABS. Ibig sabihin Malaki na ang edge ng Kapuso over Kapamilya in terms of profit. Correct me if I am wrong. Sa pagkakaalam ko TFC na lang ang bumubuhay sa abs. grabe ha.

I Am A Kapuso...Why???

This would be my first reasonable (este with meaning) na post. Maraming mga tao ang nagtatalo kung anong station and no. 1 and still they can't find the right answers kasi iba't ibang reasons ang dinadahilan nila. Some said na sa ratings nalalaman kung sino ang number one, minsan naman sa quality ng shows, minsan din sa pagkaoriginal na gawa nila, and sometimes dahil, wala lang. Wala lang. Gusto lang nila ang station na yon kaya number one ito...

I admit it, Kapuso ako pero sa tuwing nakikita ko na yung mga GMA fanatics jan eh nagsasalita ng kung ano-ano (parang yung karamihan sa kapamilyang nababasa ko ang mga posts) as in yung mga words eh like "utak biya, bobo, etc" parang nakakadegrade kasi tinagurian ngang kapuso ang isip naman wala. Mga kapuso, let us prove na maganda ang naidudulot sa atin ng fave station natin, okay???

Maganda ang mga palabas sa GMA. Actually, depende pala. If you appreciate shows sa gabi na for kids (like Majika) or those colorful heroines ng Encantadia, well, Kapuso ka siguro. I just love their stories kasi I find it logical at may dating talaga. Para sakin kahit may loopholes minsan ang script mangha pa rin ako kasi angganda ng plot ng story. As far as I know Encantadia pa lang yung nakagawa ng storya na kahit pahabain nang pahabain ang storya maganda pa rin at kaabang abang. Kahit may mga nawalang characters okay lang kasi hindi nadestroy ang storya. Angganda pa ng production value ng Encan. Encantadicct na nga siguro ako. Go Pirena!

I must admit na yung nagdaang teleserye ng GMA ay mga flops (as in flops talaga) well ang mga fantaserye naman nila ang humirit (eto rin ang nagpababa sa ABS but well nang bumalik sila sa format nila dati bumalik din naman na tumaas ang ilan nilang ratings).

Wala namang malaking problema sa ABS. May mga tao namang nagugustuhan ang mga palabas nila. Pero ang kaya ko lang ipoint out na dahilan eh ang management nila. ooo-ps i wont go any further. Well isa pa pala. Script especially sa Panday. ooo-ps. I wont go any further...Ayoko talaga sa ABS-CBN.

Maraming meron ang GMA na wala ang ABS-CBN. At lamang ang GMA dito. Kaya ako naging kapuso. Next time, i will point out kung ano ang mga hindi maganda para sa akin sa ABS.
